A look: look at gloss, color, transparency
luster. Gloss is the ability of jade to reflect light. Hetian jade is a grease luster - waxy luster. "Warm and zeal" is the gloss with a strong oily, moisturizing feeling. This kind of luster is very soft and makes people look very comfortable. From the overall situation, Hetian jade is stronger than other jade's "oil", which is a key point to identify Hetian jade.
colour. Hetian jade is rich in shades, including four basic colors such as white, cyan, yellow, and black, as well as transition colors such as blue-white, gray-white, and so on. In addition, Hetian jade has a lot of skin color, and the skin color can be used to make a pretty jade.
transparency. Transparency is the extent to which jade allows visible light to pass through.
Between micro-transparency and translucency, on the whole, Hetian jade transparency (or “water headâ€) is superior to Dushan jade, but less than Qinghai jade.

Three tests: scoring test hardness with a knife
Hardness is one of the important signs for identifying Hetian jade. The jade with high hardness has good polishing properties, which makes the jade bright and easy to store. Hetian jade has a Mohs hardness of 6 to 7, which is greater than the hardness of ordinary jade. Use a small iron knife (or steel knife) to score Hetian jade, the jade body is not damaged. It is also possible to use Hetian jade to sculpt ordinary glass, scratches on the glass, and Hetian jade has no damage, which is impossible for most other types of jade. Dushan jade hardness is also very large, but Dushan jade color is more mixed, often in a jade with a variety of colors, and low transparency, easy to distinguish from Hetian jade. The hardness of Qinghai jade is about 0.5 degree lower than that of Hetian jade. It is scored by the corners of the single-sided blade with the broken blade, which will have a slight scratch. This is a reliable method for Hetian jade and Qinghai jade respectively.
